The manufacturing industry is in an interesting period. Competition from the Far East is increasing, but the Dutch industry manages to distinguish itself by focusing on speed, quality, modularisation and new business models and services for customers. The common thread driving these developments is digitalisation.
OEMs and system suppliers are strongly committed to these developments and are consequently placing ever-higher demands on suppliers. This is happening at a time when margins are under pressure, limiting scope for investment. Combined with the shortage of qualified staff, this is having a major impact on the speed at which companies are digitising. Nevertheless, they will have to strive for the same level of efficiency, flexibility and quality assurance in order to remain relevant and prevent OEMs and system suppliers from insourcing. After all, the chain is only as strong as its weakest link.
But what exactly are the requirements that these OEMs and system suppliers place on the chain, and to what extent does digitalisation really play a role in this? And can suppliers meet the increasing demands at all? During the Industry Debate during trade fairs ESEF Maakindustrie and TechniShow (1 - 4 September, Jaarbeurs Utrecht), the panel, consisting of oeMs and suppliers, will try to answer these and other questions on current topics.
Richard van Kray, director of De Klantbetekenaar.nl, leads the debate. He is also the author of the book 'Sales from your heart'. In it, he sets out a sales philosophy that is not aimed at quickly reaching a transaction, but first and foremost at establishing a long-term, loyal customer relationship. As a kick-off, Van Kray will outline that this philosophy also works in a digital business model.
