Ferrous and non-ferrous materials are valuable waste streams, especially in a world where natural resources are becoming scarcer and therefore more strategic. Jansen Recycling Group operates in this sector. It buys iron and metal residue streams from the metal processing industry, among others, and delivers them to smelters.
More and more companies with ferrous and non-ferrous materials are finding their way to this family-owned company. With four sites totalling 20,000 square metres of yard and an annual tonnage of almost 500,000 tonnes, it is one of the biggest players in the Dutch and Belgian metal recycling market.
The company has grown rapidly, becoming the interlocutor for any high-volume company that wants to be assured that its material is processed in a correct and circular way, in addition to an optimal price.
Frank van Delft explains the growth: "Besides offering competitive prices, we distinguish ourselves through a high level of service and transparency. With Bas Kooy Transport, we operate 35 trucks throughout the Netherlands and surrounding countries, recently also with a fully electric truck. We have 650 containers in circulation, which we build ourselves in Dordrecht. Customers call us reliable and solution-oriented, and indicate that as a team we have heart for the business. Furthermore, we consistently try to do the little things right: transport on time, correct invoicing, transparency and insight through a customer portal and thinking along with the customer. We really want to add value, try to understand the customer," said Frank, Business Developer Industries at the company.
There is plenty of investment in sustainable operations. The yards are equipped with liquid-proof floors, their own water treatment and vegetated walls and roofs. There are 4,500 PV panels on the sheds and the stationary transfer cranes are electric. In addition to certifications such as ISO14001, CO2, and the CSR Performance Ladder, the company will report according to VSME standards. Part of the profits will also be invested in good causes, local and far away.
"The best and most circular remains our core process, recycling valuable materials that can be recycled again and again. After processing and reprocessing by the stationary shredding lines, we sell the ferrous and non-ferrous materials as secondary raw materials to smelters at home and abroad. From closing-the-loop, we see more and more triangles emerging between manufacturing companies, metal recyclers and the smelter. We do the logistics and processing, and ask the manufacturing company where they want it delivered, because that smelter makes the product that the supplier uses again. That kind of collaboration requires trust in each other and a willingness to go the extra mile. In one campaign, we use the slogan 'We were circular before it was cool'. This underlines that circularity is in our DNA. We bring what is released by our customers back into the chain. Together, we close the chain of metal recycling, for today's raw materials but also for tomorrow's generations."
