Fokker Next Gen will deploy Dassault Systèmes' 3DEXPERIENCE platform for the development of its hydrogen-powered aircraft. The parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect.
Dutch Fokker Next Gen wants to transport passengers across Europe in a CO2-neutral way. To this end, it is working on a passenger plane that can fly on hydrogen. This aircraft should appear on the market in 2035 and enable flights of up to 2,500 kilometres. This should make all destinations within Europe accessible in a CO2-neutral way.
Reducing environmental impact and noise production
The aircraft should be able to carry 120 to 150 passengers. The aircraft can use not only liquid hydrogen as fuel, but also sustainable Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and paraffin. Besides reducing the environmental impact, Fokker Next Gen is also focusing on reducing the aircraft's noise production. This should reduce the nuisance caused by air traffic.
Production of the hydrogen-based aircraft is to take place in the Netherlands. Juriaan Kellerman, managing director of Fokker Nexst Gen, earlier in an interview with Nederlands Dagblad, pointed to the large investments in hydrogen from the Netherlands, including in Rotterdam and Groningen. Together with Rolls-Royce, the company is developing an aircraft engine that runs on hydrogen.
Prototype is under development
The company is currently working on an initial one based on a converted Fokker 100, which should make its first flight in 2027. The company plans to present the design next year.
So for this design, Fokker Next Gen is going to use Dassault Systèmes' 3DEXPERIENCE platform. This is a business and innovation platform that gives customers a holistic and real-time view of their business activities and ecosystem.
Single version of the truth
The platform serves as a so-called 'single version of the truth'. That is, the platform collects all relevant data. Thus, the platform avoids data stored in different places, which can lead to discrepancies and differences between data sources. The platform connects professionals, teams, departments and external players. Together, they can transform ideas into products, services and experiences via 3DEXPERIENCE.
Specifically, the platform provides a unified environment in which different stakeholders can collaborate on a project. In addition, 3DEXPERIENCE offers a so-called 'virtual twin'. With this, parties create a virtual representation of a product or process. Among other things, this helps to visualise complex systems and supports the exploration of possibilities and scenarios.
3DEXPERIENCE Marketplace
Part of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform is also the 3DEXPERIENCE Marketplace. Here, designers and professionals can find 3D components from various suppliers in a catalogue with millions of parts. They can also upload designs and request quotes for their production.
