The Energiehaven project in IJmuiden has received 2,037,610 European grant. The money is for the study in preparation for the construction of the 580-metre-long quay. Purpose of the quay? To receive, assemble and maintain wind turbine components at sea.
Deputy Rosan Kocken: 'This subsidy is an important step in the realisation of the Energy Port. We are currently working hard with all parties to create a balanced and stable business case. European subsidy is an important part of this. The fact that we have received this grant is therefore good news. In fact, it ensures that this autumn we can decide together whether to enter the next phase of the project.'
Energiehaven
The new Energiehaven will be a public port area. It is aimed at offshore wind activities. It is therefore located on the sea side of the North Sea Canal, just before the IJmuiden locks. The port will be a base of operations for the construction and maintenance of wind farms that will rise in the North Sea in the coming years. It thus makes an important contribution to energy transition and making the North Sea Canal area more sustainable.
Collaboration
The development of the Energiehaven is a collaboration between the Ministry of I&W, the province of North Holland, the municipality of Velsen, Tata Steel, Zeehaven IJmuiden and Port of Amsterdam. A decision on whether the cooperation partners will enter the concrete plan development phase will be taken this autumn. The aim is for the Energy Port to be operational by 2027.
Connecting Europe Facility (CEF)
The grant amount is part of the more than EUR 125 million European subsidy received by the Netherlands for the construction and improvement of transport infrastructure. The European Commission makes this money available from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for rail, inland navigation and aviation projects that make transport more sustainable.
