It is already almost impossible to imagine Dutch roads without the electric bike. With the growing number of e-bikes, the demand for fast charging options is also growing. Delft startup Tiler has invented a paving stone that uses induction technology to charge the bike's battery.

The tile by Tiler, a startup formerly called Fesla Charge, is mounted in the ground and used in combination with e-bikes with a special stand. It contains an induction charger and when the stand is then placed on the tile, the e-bike charges quickly. The makers cite as advantages that it works quickly and easily (you just have to park your bike on the tile), the tile is easy to install and has little impact on the cityscape and is safe.

With an app

The charging solution could be a godsend for places where many bicycles are parked, such as educational institutions and hospitals. But it is also an easy solution for hotels that rent out bikes and consumers. Renters will also benefit, as an accompanying app will show you where the bikes are and whether they are charged.

Investment

Tiler has now secured a substantial investment of 250,000 euros from the UNIIQ and Delft Enterprises investment funds. A prototype of the paving stone has been undergoing testing for some time at a dedicated pilot site at AHOY Rotterdam. With this investment, Tiler aims to further develop the product and sell the first units in September.
