In the coming years, the European Commission is going to deal with, among other things, a revision of the Machinery Directive. Also in the Netherlands, this revision has many stakeholders. That is why a meeting will be organised on 23 August where anyone who wants to can join the discussion about the revision.
Before revising the Machinery Directive bit by bit in the coming years, the European Commission would first like to map out the opinions of all stakeholders of the Machinery Directive. With this in mind, NEN, in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment (SZW), is organising a meeting for all Dutch stakeholders on Friday 23 August to exchange views on this revision.
Machinery Directive developments
The machinery directive is the basis for legislation in all European member states on the safety of machinery. The impact of a new machinery directive is big, especially as Europe needs to move forward with it for the next decades.
Technological and social developments must be taken into account, such as robotics, Artificial intelligence and cyber security. Other questions also come into play: should the Lifts Directive be integrated into the Machinery Directive? Should play and attraction equipment return to the scope of the Machinery Directive? What does it mean if the new regulations are not drafted as directives, but as European regulations?
For the Netherlands, the machinery directive is of great importance. That is why the Netherlands counts when it comes to shaping the successor to the Machinery Directive. As one of eight European countries, the Netherlands is contributing to an impact assessment on this directive.
Questionnaire
Based on the questionnaire issued by the European Commission and a number of themes, NEN offers all stakeholders the opportunity to engage in a dialogue. This allows you to better shape your thoughts on all these issues. And also to share your thoughts with the Dutch representation in this topic, policy staff of the Ministry of SZW. At the end of this theme day, you can express your views from your own point of view in the aforementioned European Commission questionnaire. The deadline to complete this is 30 August 2019.
Participation in the discussion meeting on Friday 23 August 2019 is free of charge. The meeting lasts from 9.30 to 15.00 including lunch. Registration is required and can be done via this website.
