The Netherlands must become more tech-minded. This way, everyone can benefit from the opportunities that technology offers for our country. Digitalisation must ensure that by 2021 the Netherlands is 'smarter'. That is the central message of FME's Industry Agenda.
Last Monday, FME chairman Ineke Dezentjé Hamming-Bluemink presented the FME Agenda for the Technology Industry 2019-2021 to State Secretary for Economic Affairs and Climate Mona Keijzer. The handover took place during the small and medium-sized industry (mki) summit at the 3D Maker Zone in Haarlem.

Technology plays a key role in solving social issues. Will we make the switch to clean energy in time? How do we prevent cities from silting up, traffic jams from increasing and the shortage of housing from growing? These are questions that FME is asking and to which the Technological Industry Agenda provides partial answers. FME chairman Ineke Dezentjé: "In order to use technology as a game-changer for social issues, a breakthrough is needed. For this, the government and industry must join hands and start investing in innovation and education."
Breakthroughs are needed
Currently, the shortage of technical personnel is limiting the growth and solution capacity of the technology industry. Countries around us are investing heavily in innovation. The Netherlands cannot be left behind. Smart Industry is indispensable in this respect. Innovation in the technology industry takes place through the application of new technologies such as robotisation, Internet of Things and Smart Sensoring. This also requires employees to learn the right skills.
"To use technology as a gamechanger for social issues, a breakthrough is needed. For this, the government and the business community must join hands and start investing in innovation and education."
The state secretary visited the Smart Industry fieldlab 3D Makerszone and Hembrug Machine Tools in Haarlem at the invitation of FME. With the mki directors of the 3D Makerszone, Hembrug Machine Tools, Kenz Figee, Ravo and Jeveka, the state secretary discussed what is needed to accelerate Smart Industry in the mki.
