ESEF 2018 is just around the corner: from 20 to 23 March, the trade fair for the manufacturing industry will take place. In the run-up to it, we highlight a number of exhibitors on the basis of five short questions. This time, it is Metalfinish Group's turn.
1. What solutions do you have to offer ESEF visitors?
"We offer a total package of solutions when it comes to surface processing of all non-ferrous materials. This includes stainless steel, aluminium but also copper, brass, alloy, titanium, etc. By thinking along with the customer, many cost savings can often be made with the right advice. During the past year, Metalfinish Group has grown tremendously in terms of buildings but also in terms of techniques available. Think of creating the ultimate corrosion resistance through the combination of our H2Ofinish (wet blasting) and polinox protect."
2. What has been your latest investment and why?
"We have had a wet blast cabin (the largest in Europe) installed with dimensions of 8×10 metres but with sliding walls so that larger objects can also be treated. We also purchased a 9-metre-wide long belt grinder (Peitzmeier) where size is no longer an issue. Sheets of all thicknesses can be processed here (including mirror polishing). This machine (see photo below) will work together with a robot so that more complex items can also be polished."

3. How did you contribute to the customer's final product?
"We are known for our reliability and flexibility because we combine our Frisian sobriety with innovation and quality. It often happens that with the right advice, cost savings can be made by taking unnecessary work out of the process or adjusting the sequence of the process. Our approach is that we never sell 'no' which sometimes presents us with challenges for which we then have new machines made. An example is internal tube grinding. We developed this machine after a major customer of ours asked us to do so. It is now a unique machine that can grind tubes up to 14.5 metres internally (at any desired roughness or RA value) including measurement reports."
4. What innovations and projects have you worked on recently?
"We are currently in the final stages for a huge billboard to be placed in London, designed by Zaha Hadid. More information on this can be found by clicking on this link. We work in all industries, each with various innovations and special projects we get to work on."
5. How do you relieve your customer?
"We try to unburden the customer by providing a single point of contact, even if several companies are working on a project. We also try to offer a total solution in the area of surface machining. By also working on location worldwide, work can continue as usual for the customer."
