A grant application for the research project 'More with Less in the Manufacturing Industry' has been approved by the National Regieorgaan Praktijkgericht Onderzoek SIA. It concerns a RAAK SME grant. This allows the research project to start.
More with Less in the Manufacturing Industry focuses on challenges faced by manufacturing SMEs in the transition to a circular economy. This often requires radical changes in operations and supply chain management.
Dilemma
The steps required are not always clear, leading to companies being unable to properly assess the risks and sticking to old ways of working. This creates a dilemma: not joining the circular economy is not an option, but switching costs time and money while this is often in short supply.
According to the parties involved, the solution lies in combining circular and linear business models. By developing circular business models alongside existing models, companies can combine the valuable aspects of both options.
Managing circular and linear business models side by side
The More with Less in the Manufacturing Industry project focuses on developing a system for circular business model portfolio management. This should enable SME manufacturing companies to manage circular and linear business models side by side. The parties also call this Circular BusinessModel PortfolioManagement (CBMPM), which helps companies make a conscious and controlled transition to a circular economy.
The project also aims to gather knowledge on innovation in the field of circular business models. And translating this into methods for integrating circular models into the organisation so that they can make them profitable alongside linear models.
Now that the grant application has been approved, the project can start from 1 January 2025. The end date of the project is 31 December 2026.
