In a rural area in Poland, studio Mobius Architekci has created an impressive architectural design that seamlessly blends the traditional beauty of a farmhouse with bold, modern minimalism. The project features a contemporary design with green roofs to reduce the building's impact on the environment.
At first glance, the house may appear to be a contemporary interpretation of a rustic stone farmhouse. However, closer inspection reveals how innovative this design by Mobius Architekci is. Finished in natural stone - historically linked to the region's agricultural architecture - the house seems deeply rooted in its surroundings. However, it quickly becomes clear that the house is anything but conventional.
The design of the 750 sq m house revolves around the contrast between openness and closedness. Mobius Architekci redefined the concept of a farmhouse by adding glass walls and a light interior. The design takes the form of a loop composed of internal spaces. Rooms are interconnected in a way that creates cohesion despite the vast layout.
Loop-shaped design
Although the loop-shaped design creates a fluid internal experience, it may not be the most efficient use of space. The exterior of the house is built with large, carefully carved stone slabs that enclose the structure and contrast with the soft wooden furnishings of the interior. The stone facade provides thermal mass and helps moderate temperature fluctuations throughout the year. Conversely, large glass surfaces provide a contemporary counterpoint to the stone façade. These glass walls flood the interiors with natural light and blur the boundary between inside and outside.
Mobius Architekci positioned the house to maximise views of the surrounding natural environment. The different corners of the structure allow for distinct interior design, which is complemented by a large courtyard. The house uniquely integrates the landscape into its form, with an extensive garden cover that helps the house disappear into its rural surroundings.
