Already getting used to the fact that the Netherlands is getting warmer? Then it might be high time for a surfing course. The waves may not be there (yet) but the Rävik, an electric powered surfboard from Awake Boards, will help you get over that.
With a speed of over 50 km/hour, the Rävik is really only for lovers of extreme sports. The whisper-quiet electric Rävik is made of carbon fibre; you control the speed comfortably with a wireless hand control. The replaceable battery, which can be recharged in 80 minutes, is good for about 45 minutes of 'surffun'.
The Rävik looks a bit like a souped-up electric skateboard and fits in perfectly with the trend towards water sports that can be quite physically challenging. This often involves using compact, electric-powered equipment to get your kicks at high speed by balancing and steering to reach the highest possible speed.
The full carbon fibre design and the high torque power of the direct drive make the Rävik one of the most popular extreme surfboards. The board is basically meant for smooth water; so it is ideal for getting some experience on the North Sea. Jumping over waves, as is done with standard surfboards, is only possible to a very limited extent. On the other hand, when opening up the throttle, delicious turns can be made and the occasional small wave can be caught. Anxious about things going wrong? If you fall off the board and it turns over in the water, it stops automatically. That's nice considering how fast the board goes and how far it could sail.
Rävik will appear on the market in September. See what is possible? The video below gives you an idea in advance.
