Green-clad buildings are popular. Logical because who would rather not spend their time in nature. The Marina Tower by Foster + Partners will not only be the first green high-rise in Greece, but also the tallest building in the country.

The Marina Tower is being developed in Agios Kosmas, not far from Athens. It will be 200 metres high, almost twice as high as Athens Tower 1, which at 103 metres is currently the tallest building in Greece. By comparison, the tallest building in Europe is in Petersburg and has a height of 462 m, while The Shard in London is 309.6 m high.

At this early stage, not many details are known yet. In any case, the building will accommodate 200 flats, which will be spread over 45 floors. To keep the interiors cool, natural ventilation will be used as much as possible. Numerous greenery will also provide additional insulation and shade. Large areas of glass and balconies will also provide residents with stunning views of the rugged coastline.

Master plan

The Marina Tower is planned in the marina area of Agios Kosmas. It will not only be the tallest building in Greece but also the tallest green residential tower on the Mediterranean beach. The tower is part of the Ellinikon Master Plan. With it, Foster + Partners is transforming the site of a former airport into a new district for living, shopping, recreation and culture. According to Foster + Partners, each neighbourhood will be self-sufficient, including through the use of environmentally friendly building materials.
