Winemakers, brewers, patissiers, cheese and meat product makers who make local and special products will have their own sales channel with foodshed.nl from 1 May.

By opening a shed on the online marketplace, they will offer their range directly to entrepreneurs of independent supermarkets, specialty shops, restaurants, pump shops, campsites and the like. With foodshed.nl, these entrepreneurs have direct access to order from the market stalls of providers of local speciality products.

Chain to customer shortened

Foodshed.nl shortens the chain from producer to customer and allows entrepreneurs to offer a complete local and special range in their shop, store or restaurant. Retailers can distinguish themselves with such products, have direct insight into the range and can order and pay efficiently in one go.

With a subscription, artisan producers set up their own foodshed that lists their offerings. The marketplace is a solution to directly market and sell their products in multiple channels. "Local and innovative suppliers find it difficult to gain access and profitability in a market currently dominated mainly by large parties. While hospitality and retail entrepreneurs are searching frantically for a distinctive range of pure products with a unique story. Foodshed shortens the chain by directly connecting supply and demand on an online business marketplace," said Foodshed spokeswoman Hanneke Schellens.

The marketplace thus bypasses a major barrier to entry, one of the problems faced by independent producers, according to foodshed.nl

Before you get into the big supermarkets and wholesalers, it can take a year or more. And if you then want to add something new to your range, you can wait again. Foodshed wants to change that.

Sales opportunities for small-scale

Foodshed aims to grow into an independent and transparent platform where small-scale providers get more sales opportunities and reach directly. "Providers set their own price and conditions. Through foodshed, they have a wider reach, but keep direct contact with buyers themselves who can quickly and easily keep abreast of distinctive offers. Entrepreneurs save time because they can go to several sheds on one site for their order. Foodshed fulfils the role of market master and monitors quality and market presence," says Schellens.

Foodshed.nl was founded by Willem Treep. Together with Drees Peter van den Bosch in Willem & Treep, he supplied fruit and vegetables to supermarkets. Two years ago, this service turned into a partnership with Beebox with home delivery of boxes of organic meals.
