Aiming for a healthier future, people want to get rid of pesticides. Carbon Robotics launched the LaserWeeder Implement in 2023; a godsend for farmers with a lot of farmland. The self-driving vehicle removes weeds by laser without damaging the crop.
Artificial Intelligence makes it easy for farmers
The robot identifies and removes weeds almost instantly by using heat. The LaserWeeder Implement does this through AI and laser technology. It identifies different types of weeds through a deep-learning model. The robot can work day and night in all weather conditions and still work to the millimetre through Carbon Robotics' light-computing system. Although the robot costs a bit, it will reduce annual costs for weed controllers by 80%.
The LaserWeeder uses 150W CO2 lasers that remove weeds with millimetre precision, outside the visible range, at a wavelength of 10.6 microns. The robot removes more than 100,000 unwanted plants per hour. Because of the laser's accuracy, the microbiology of the soil remains intact. Also because no pesticides are used, leading to healthier crops. Ultimately, this contributes to human and animal health.
