Motorised kayaks are not entirely new. Most of them use a traditional outboard motor in the process. The Czech eMogi looks like an ordinary kayak but has an integrated electric motor.

The eMogi has a length of 3.23 m and a width of 70 cm. However, besides paddles, it also has a removable lithium-ion battery pack in the bow, a control panel and telescopic steering wheel at the front of the cockpit, and a 1 kilowatt electric motor in the stern.

That motor drives a propeller that protrudes more or less straight back from the keel. The motor can be switched on at the touch of a button. One button is located on the steering wheel but there is also one integrated into the paddle. The eMogi's rudder is operated by pressing the footrests in the kayak, or by turning the steering wheel. Of course, the paddle can also be used.

There are three forward speeds plus reverse - top speed is 10.7 knots (20 km/h). The eMogi is available with four battery capacities, with the highest (22.2 volts/1,340 Wh) good for a runtime of up to seven hours per four to five hours of charging. An additional battery can also be stored in the stern.

According to its designers, the eMogi is primarily designed to sail up a river against the current. For example, it could be used to reach a favourite fishing spot, but it could also be used for emergency assistance or supporting kayakers with physical limitations.

You can see the eMogi at work in the video below.
