The Nevada desert isn’t exactly the place you’d expect to find the world’s most intelligent yacht. Yet that’s exactly what turned out to be the case at the US trade fair CES. The yacht, the Adonis, offers luxury and comfort and is equipped with the comprehensive onboard AI system Angel. With facial recognition, voice control, smart mirrors and touchscreens, Angel makes the already luxurious stay on board even more personalised.

The Adonis has a length of 24 metres and is built by Numarine. The yacht was given a high-quality finish by Furrion. The yacht is a concept and live product display for both companies. Central to Adonis is Angel, an Alexa-like personal assistant. Angel combines various smart features and information and makes them accessible when the system is addressed with 'Hi Angel'. The system Angel then displays news, social media updates, weather and other information , can play music in one or more rooms or even order a meal in the galley.

Angel system is not only accessible via voice but also via smart mirrors in the bedrooms. What initially looks like a modest mirror becomes an interactive screen when you touch it or ask Angel to wake up. The smart display then acts as a touchscreen, showing news or web searches, data from hunting systems, course maps and even TV programmes and movies. For rooms without a smart mirror, smaller tablets with touchscreen controls can be used. This way, Angel is always at your fingertips.

Angel responds to your voice, but also uses facial recognition to learn individual preferences and characteristics. With that information, the system can automatically set the desired temperature, open or close window shades, adjust music, dim lights, etc. Angel can also make suggestions on land-based activities, restaurants or locations you absolutely must visit during your trip. To gain biometric access, the user simply stands in front of a smart mirror, which allows Angel to read facial features while performing health analysis on weight, skin, etc.

Angel has also been entrusted with security on board Adonis. To do so, it uses cameras on board the ship and a drone that is ready on the upper yacht deck. This can be used to conduct a 'reconnaissance flight' to effectively spot threats. The drone can also be used to take its own pictures of the environment and passengers.
A final component of the Angel system is Furrion's Sense TV, a slim HD unit with built-in soundbar.

Angel is expected to be ready for the market by the end of 2019 and will then continue to grow in capabilities and applications. Besides yachts, Furrion also expects to supply Angel to owners of motorhomes, for example. Deployment in homes is also expected in due course. Want to see Adonis and Angel?
