TU/e is launching the new master's programme Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DS&AI). The programme has been formally recognised by the Dutch-Flemish Accreditation Organisation (NVAO).

The new master's is offered by the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science. According to TU/e, it is the first engineering programme in the Netherlands to combine advanced techniques and methods in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. "Combining Data Science with AI makes sense, as both disciplines are closely intertwined nowadays," explains associate professor Dirk Fahland, closely involved in the creation of the programme.

Reliable systems with an eye for users

The new master aims to train AI engineers capable of building reliable systems that are mindful of the people who use them. Fahland: "This is important, for example, for the high-tech systems being developed here in the region, which have high reliability requirements."

During the master's programme, students learn to look at problems from different angles and gain a broad basic knowledge. For instance, the master includes courses on the fundamentals of artificial intelligence, data visualisation, ethics, algorithmics, data mining and management, and machine learning.

Six tracks

The master consists of six tracks, each representing a distinct area of expertise around Data Science & Artificial Intelligence. These include:

  • Data Engineering and Management
  • Algorithmic Data Analysis
  • Explainable Data Analytics
  • Statistics
  • Data Mining and Machine Learning
  • AI and Machine Learning
