The Netherlands has many thousands, often smaller companies that form an essential part of the Dutch manufacturing industry. Companies that are innovative and are an indispensable link in the chain of Dutch manufacturing. Although praised and acclaimed, individual entrepreneurs rarely appear prominently in the news or seek publicity themselves. Time to put this silent force of the Dutch economy in the spotlight. Although: sunshine is perhaps not the right word because that will happen during the Evening of the Manufacturing Industry on 7 March next. A special evening in Jaarbeurs Utrecht on which key stakeholders in the SME manufacturing industry, FPT-VIMAG and Metaalunie, in collaboration with Jaarbeurs, will put the spotlight on its members.
The Evening of the Making Industry will be organised for the first time in 2018. This evening fulfils the need for a joint evening of celebration for the entire industry. As the manufacturing industry consists of different companies from different sectors, the choice was made to use this evening to showcase both the diversity and strength of all these companies and sectors together. In the chain that makes up the manufacturing industry, every link is essential, which is why this evening also emphasises the interconnectedness of the sectors and companies. It is also for this reason that the Federation NRK has joined this initiative. It is not for nothing that this Evening takes place just before the two leading Dutch manufacturing industry trade fairs TechniShow and ESEF from 20 - 23 March in Jaarbeurs Utrecht. The evening is framed by music and a festive dinner.
An important part of the evening is the presentation of awards in the Manufacturing Industry. This is how Metaalunie presents its Smart Manufacturing Award 2018. Every year, Koninklijke Metaalunie makes an award available to a Metaalunie member that distinguishes itself positively with a topical theme. This year's theme is 'Smart Manufacturing', or smart manufacturing. From the nine district winners chosen last December, three nominated companies will first be chosen during the Evening of the Manufacturing Industry, after which the winner of the Award will be crowned.
The TechniShow Innovation Awards 2018 will also be presented during the Evening of the Making Industry. With the TechniShow Innovation Awards, FPT-VIMAG rewards those innovations that are of course new and distinctive, but also have economic and/or social impact. Moreover, the innovations contribute to the developments around Smart Industry and make smarter and faster business possible. The TechniShow Innovation Awards show how diverse innovations in the production technology sector are and how much impact they can have on the total production chain. Awards are presented for three categories.
The presentation of the various awards are the highlights of the Evening of the Manufacturing Industry and reflect well the essence of the event: inspiring and festive. Manufacturing companies are put in the spotlight and show how innovative, successful and important they are to the industry. This also makes the Evening of the Making Industry a gauge for the Dutch manufacturing industry.
