DAF in Eindhoven started series production of a completely new generation of trucks in early November. The truck manufacturer developed the new truck against the background of the new European directives on vehicle dimensions.
"DAF is not only the first but also the only one," said chief executive Harry Wolters. "That makes our new long-haul trucks - the new XF, XG and XG+ - introduce a new benchmark in terms of efficiency, safety and driver comfort. These were immediately the main reasons for the European Commission to literally give the truck industry more room to develop optimal cabs. By lengthening the front design by 16 centimetres and paying maximum attention to aerodynamics, among other things, no less than 10% fuel savings and a similar reduction in CO2 emissions will be achieved."
Brainport Eindhoven bustles
Mayor of Eindhoven, John Jorritsma, said he was proud of 'his' city of Eindhoven, centre of the 'Brainport Region'. "It's buzzing in Eindhoven. Our city of Technology, Design and Knowledge. That DAF is starting serial production of a new generation of revolutionary trucks - high-tech products - is wonderful proof of that."
New vehicle platform
The New Generation DAF represents a completely new vehicle platform. This platform is fully prepared for future, alternative battery-electric and hydrogen powertrains, which are currently under development at DAF.
New standard in driver comfort
The first mass-produced truck of the new generation was delivered to André Verbeek, director/owner of Dutch Verbeek Agra Vision. The company focuses on national and international transport of poultry and hatching eggs. It operates a fleet of 30 vehicles, including 25 DAFs. The special XG+ will drive at subsidiary Hennentransport Hooijer. "Besides the highest reliability and low cost per kilometre, excellent driver comfort is an important reason for us to choose DAF," says André Verbeek. "With the new top model XG+, DAF sets yet another new standard in this area. In these times of driver shortages, this is very important."
