Piping that needs to be retrofitted on board ships or on offshore and industrial installations always presents certain challenges. For example, installing penetration pipes for this purpose is difficult, whilst the fire safety and watertight integrity of the new pipework must also be guaranteed. A Dutch company has developed a clever solution for this in the form of a time- and cost-saving installation kit. This allows flanged penetration pipes to be fitted easily and without welding into steel decks, floors, bulkheads and walls. And with the accompanying plugs, the pipe penetration can also be quickly and effectively sealed to make it fire-resistant and gas-, smoke- and watertight.

Welding on board ships as well as in industrial environments is not only time-consuming but also physically demanding due to the heavy tools and gas cylinders. This is especially true when welding in hard-to-reach places or in environments with a lot of climbing. Welding also entails an increased fire risk, while after welding you have to wait for the welded equipment to cool down. In this way, a lot of valuable installation time is lost.

For conduit pipes, a Dutch company from Aalten now brings a smart solution for this that allows flanged pipes to be easily screwed into steel decks or bulkheads. The set consists of flange pipes, a horseshoe-shaped guide ring, gaskets made of NOFIRNO rubber material and special fixing bolts. For optimum installation tightness, a NOFIRNO gasket is also integrated in the head of the bolts. The set is assembled by first screwing one of the fixing bolts through the flange tube and the NOFIRNO gasket into the guide and then inserting the washer through the opening in the bulkhead. Then the remaining BEBOLTITE fixing bolts are also fitted and tightened. For a long-term watertight seal, tightening forces of about 8 Nm are sufficient thanks to the NOFIRNO gasket quality.

The conduit pipe can then be sealed with the SLIPSIL XL-120 plug. This plug is used to seal existing pipe penetrations in a fire-resistant, gas-, smoke- and watertight manner. There is also a blind plug variant to facilitate future pipework. Both plug variants are easy to install: the plug consists of two parts that are greased and placed around the relevant pipe (or pipes). The plug parts are then pushed into the open space around the pipe, effectively sealing the penetration. As the conduit pipe of the mounting set is an exact fit, optimum sealing is combined with great ease of installation.

The video below shows exactly how they are installed.
