An apparently revolutionary and innovative product has recently appeared on Kickstarter: the electric Y-Brush. Its makers promise that with this toothbrush, you clean your teeth in ten seconds.
Over 1,100 people have now ordered the toothbrush. They have presumably become interested by the promise that with the Y-Brush you only need 10 seconds to get your teeth clean. It works by combining sonic vibration with the widely known Bass method. This method is replicated, as it were, because the brushes are at a 45-degree angle.
The Bass method is a technical brushing motion that involves tilting the head end of a toothbrush at a 45-degree angle and making a rolling motion that removes plaque, dirt and bacteria deeper under the gum line.
The toothbrush has been developed and tested by dentists over the past few years, and the Y-Brush has the same features as the Bass method, so to speak:
Brush size - The length and width of the bristles are calculated to reach the interdental space, gingival sulcus and gums.
Bristle shape - Supple and rounded at the ends, the bristles do not damage gums and tooth enamel during brushing.
Brush movement - Consistently replicates the technical movement of the Bass method, deeply cleaning your teeth, gums and below the gum line.
All you have to do is fill the flexible mouthpiece (shaped like teeth) with your own toothpaste, bite down on it and turn the brush on. After five seconds, turn the brush over and do the same for the other side of the teeth. The mouthpiece is then easy to clean.
Nylon
The brushes in the mouthpiece are made of nylon, which is a more effective alternative to silicone, which toothbrushes are usually made of. Because they are thinner, they can easily get into tight spaces and other hard-to-reach areas.
"During our in vivo and in vitro tests, we found that nylon bristles are most effective in removing plaque and cleaning your teeth compared to other methods such as silicone strips," reads the introction page of the Y-Brush on Kickstarter. "Our studies have shown that the Y-Brush device removes 15% more plaque than a conventional toothbrush.
We made our nylon bristles thinner to make it possible to clean between your teeth and your gum line. The ends of the bristles are rounded to keep it comfortable and gums safe."
