Research organisations TNO and Dutch medical software company Aiosyn are entering into a strategic collaboration. The parties are joining forces around the validation and implementation of Aiosyn's AI software.
Aiosyn is a Dutch company that develops software for the medical sector and specialises in AI-driven pathology. The company aims to use artificial intelligence (AI) to speed up histopathological diagnostics. Histopathological diagnostics is medical research in which diseased cells and tissues are studied microscopically, with the aim of making a diagnosis. This tissue analysis enables faster and more accurate detection of conditions such as breast cancer.
2.4 million euros in funding
The medical software company recently raised EUR 2.4 million during a funding round. Besides OostNL, LUMO Labs and Health Innovations, TNO Ventures is one of the investors in the medical software company.
TNO Ventures is TNO's venture capital fund. The fund invests in innovative startups and scale-ups that emerge from TNO research or align with TNO's strategic themes. These include energy and sustainability, health and life sciences, digital technology, and industry and mobility.
With TNO Ventures, TNO wants to support the further development and scaling up of innovative technologies. The aim is to strengthen competitiveness and increase the earning capacity of the Netherlands. Through licences and tech participations, companies get access to TNO technologies, expertise and facilities, including in the field of AI, medical technology and integrated photonics. Startups in which TNO Ventures participates pay for this in shares. TNO thus aims to be a strategic partner supporting innovative companies in their growth and development.
AI software for breast cancer grading
In recent years, Aiosyn worked on the development a three products. These are an AI model for breast cancer grading called Aiosyn Mitosis Breast, a quality control model called AiosynQC Pulse and a kidney model called NephroPath.
The collaboration with TNO will allow the medical software company to use TNO's research and lab facilities and network to accelerate the validation and implementation of its AI software.
'Milestone'
"This funding is an important milestone for Aiosyn and underlines our mission to bring AI innovation to clinical practice. In addition, we can now invest in a new generation of predictive algorithms that can transform decision-making in cancer care," explained Patrick de Boer, CEO of Aiosyn.
Marjoleine van der Zwan, director Health & Work at TNO, added: "The participation in Aiosyn demonstrates TNO's role as a strategic investor in technology and innovation aimed at better healthcare.
