It is 12 March. Quarter to nine. In just over an hour's time, trade fair ESEF Maakindustrie will open its doors for four days of innovation and development in the manufacturing industry. An industry that is very important within the Netherlands, but faces considerable challenges.

The investment climate in research and development is still good at €11 billion in 2022. But there is a clear shortage of qualified personnel. The growing shortage of (international) students is also one of the persistent headaches. Just recently the news that ASML is considering leaving the Netherlands put the market and governments back on edge. Another factor is an ageing population. This plays a major role in the Netherlands and therefore also in industry.

Competition

The Netherlands is still a very important player in the manufacturing industry. However, its chair legs are being cut. International competition is growing. Especially as our neighbouring countries are investing substantially more in research and development. That results in faster results and better marketability of the products and of course also attracts the (international) students who are so important for R&D. The Netherlands should do more to keep in step. In this sense, the future of industry in the Netherlands is certainly 'makeable'.

ESEF Maakindustrie and TechniShow

ESEF Maakindustrie shows resilience. Exhibitors unpack. Wanting to show that they are there and what they stand for: Future vision, development and innovation in a market that is among the largest in the Netherlands and has a daily impact on everything we do.

As always, ESEF Maakindustrie is organised simultaneously with TechniShow. The strength of this combination that it brings 'make' and 'buy' together under one roof. Together, they form the largest platform in this area in the Benelux in the field of industrial production technology, processing and machining of metals, plastics, accessories and tools. With more than 175 exhibitors on the ESEF Maakindustrie side. At TechniShow you will find around 300. The market is therefore well represented and a visit to both fairs is well worthwhile.
