Corona news is also currently prevailing in the Dutch manufacturing industry. Last week, we already wrote that several companies are working on the production of mouth caps for healthcare. Meanwhile, demand for other protective equipment, such as gloves and aprons, is also starting to increase. Among others, the Frisian company Lampe Technical Textiles is taking it up.
That a shortage of mouth caps was starting to emerge had been obvious for some time. But now the call for other protective equipment is also growing. These include gloves, goggles and protective aprons, for example.
Production of protective aprons
The website grootsneek.nl reports that a medical device supplier, 12WASH (subsidiary of SlingCare) is exploring opportunities to set up production for this type of protective equipment for the Netherlands. Among other things, they found a factory in Germany willing to get started on this, but also ended up with one of its regular relations: Lampe Technical Textiles from Sneek. This company has already been busy since mid-March with increased production of mouth caps and is also using its expertise in (technical) textiles and their processing to bring more products to market.
Consortium
Sustainable weaving company Enschedetextielstad is also up and running. Owner Annemiek Koster will coordinate and direct the production of the aprons, according to grootsneek.nl. She has now engaged three more major garment companies, in addition to Lampe. Lampe takes care of material logistics and 12WASH in turn takes care of distribution to where the need is greatest. The consortium, which has created its own design, hopes to produce 70,000 aprons in total and 45,000 a week for as long as there is demand.
