Turkish architecture firm Melike Altinisik Architects (MAA) has been selected to build the new Robot Science Museum (RSM) in Seoul, South Korea. Remarkably, the firm says the building will be partly built by robots. In addition, 3D printing machines and drones will also be used in the construction.
The Robot Science Museum is being built on behalf of the Seoul City Council, which wants to increase public interest in and knowledge of robotics. The initiative is part of a wider development in an area that will also house a photography museum.
Besides robotics, the Robot Science Museum will also cover other scientific developments. For instance, artificial intelligence, Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality and holographic technology also pass by. However, the construction of the museum is the first 'exhibition'.
According to the architectural firm, the new Robot Science Museum plays a role in promoting and propagating scientific knowledge, technology and innovation in society. Besides exhibiting robots, the firm says they will also play a role in further design, production and construction and service provision. Robots will be reflected in all aspects.
The curved metal facade of the spherical building is cast, assembled, welded in place and then polished by machines. In addition, 3D printers will be used to create the concrete elements of the surrounding landscaping. Furthermore, the architects expect drones to be used for construction inspections, safety monitoring and supervising the robotic vehicles on site, among other things.
