Epson launches the Moverio Assist. This new solution is intended for use with the company's Moverio smart glasses. Using the solution, technicians in the field can receive real-time support and instructions via augmented reality.
With the Moverio smart glasses, Epson aims to help companies speed up repair operations, reduce human error, increase productivity, improve customer satisfaction and reduce travel costs. The glasses include a camera and can display information and images on the lenses.
Real-time communication
Moverio Assist is a solution that extends the capabilities of the Moverio glasses. The solution allows technicians to view instructions, photos, PDF files or videos while working. They can also use the glasses to communicate in real-time with experts in the office, for example, who can watch live via the glasses.
Epson is marketing Moverio Assist as an "affordable, hand-free remote support and inspection solution for small, medium and large businesses". The company points out that the smart glasses allow users to have their hands completely free, allowing them to carry out work with both hands.
BT-300 and BT-350
Moverio Assist is suitable for the Moverio BT-300 and BT-350 glasses. "The BT-300 and BT-350 are optimised for different applications. The BT-350 is ideal for personal use. The BT-350 is intended for commercial applications where it can be used as a communication tool or to deliver services, information or entertainment to guests on location. The hardware and software features are therefore tailored to the different applications," Epson writes on its website.
In practice, this means, among other things, that the BT-300 can access the Moverio Apps Market, where applications for the smart glasses can be downloaded and installed. This app shop is not supported on the BT-350. In addition, the BT-300 receives Over The Air updates, where updates are pushed to the device via the internet. The BT-350 is managed via the BT-350 Update Tool Epson MOVERIO Admin and can receive updates via this tool. The BT-300 and the BT-350 both offer 16GB of internal storage. With the BT-350, this can be expanded with an SD card up to a maximum of 32GB.
Encotech
Epson reports that Encotech has already embraced the Moverio Assist. The company deploys the smart glasses remotely to solve problems for customers, give customers a tour, provide customer support and handle service requests, among other things.
"Previously, phone calls to teams in the field could take hours - this has been virtually eliminated by using the Moverio Assist," explains Jason Lalli, vice president of Encotech. "We have used hand-held screens in the past, but having two hands available to perform work is a game-changer. Tasks and support that previously would have taken full days can now be completed in hours or minutes. We can focus on generating revenue while keeping our customers happy."
